Surrey captain Mark Butcher has extended his contract at the Brit Oval until the end of the 2008 season.
Butcher was integral to Surrey's successes this year, leading his side straight back into Division One of the Liverpool Victoria County Championship as well as playing a major role with the bat, scoring 1418 Championship runs at the excellent average of 59.08.
The former England batsman's leadership has been instrumental in the club's recent successes and as the squad looks to rebuild over the coming seasons, his experience during this time will be invaluable.
Surrey cricket manager Alan Butcher said: "Securing Mark's services until the end of 2008 is great news for the club.
"Having his leadership is a huge bonus as he is very well respected by all of the squad, not to mention his invaluable contributions with the bat."
Surrey have also announced young pacemen Neil Saker and Jade Dernbach have agreed deals to stay with the club until the end of the 2008 season.
Opening batsmen Richard Clinton and batting all-rounder Stewart Walters have also signed contracts which will expire in 2008.
