20.3
Two Runs
Siddle to Bell. Seaming away back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot Fended, Gloved in the air uncontrolled to third man for 2 runs, fielded by Smith. With Ian Bell receiving treatment for that blow on the thumb, the heavens open and the players are leaving the field once more. The rain continues to fall and the umpires have announced a 5pm inspection. If it is still raining at that time there will not be much time left before play has to be abandoned. Just ten minutes after that announcement, the England players are out on the balcony celebrating with the fans as the game has now been called off as a draw. England will retain the Ashes regardless of what happens in the final two Tests and despite being out played at Old Trafford. The tourists will be very disappointed having dominated the game from start to finish. After struggling in the first two games with the bat, their top order finally fired and they ended up posting a formiddable total on a pitch that was already showing signs of turn. England's response was below par but Kevin Pietersen's century meant they avoided the follow on, which turned out to be a massive moment as the English weather intervened to curtail the final two days. Australia did their best on the final day but only 20 overs were possible, despite picking up three wickets they were unable to return after Lunch and so England retain the Ashes with a draw. The series heads to Durham later in the week as England seek to win the series out right.

19.6
No Runs
Clarke to Root. Stock ball back of a length, off stump on the back foot defending, to mid wicket for no runs, fielded by Harris. LUNCH - An excellent session for Australia and despite the forecast they are in with a good chance of getting back into the series. Harris bowled beautifully early on to remove the two wickets they wanted at the start of the day in Cook and Trott, before Siddle came on and removed Pietersen to leave England reeling at 35-3 at Lunch. There are some dark clouds gathering but Australia will be desperate to get out there whenever possible to pick up the remaining seven wickets. As Lunch comes to an end the rain has returned and the players will not resume on time. Play is due to resume at 2pm with five overs being lost in the day, that leaves the tourists 73 overs to get the remaining 7 wickets.
