Pakistan v. Sri Lanka

Pakistan v Sri Lanka Twenty20 Series in UAE 2013

Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai: Wednesday 11 December 2013 20:00 (day 1 of 1)

Toss: Pakistan won the toss and elected to bowl.

Result: Pakistan win by 3 wickets

Pakistan 1st innings

End of Over 20 (6 runs)
Bowler: Nuwan Kulasekara
Pakistan: 146-7 (rr 7.30)

19.1
Six Runs
SIX! Kulasekara to Afridi. Full toss, outside off stump on the front foot sweeping, well timed in the air under control over deep backward square leg for 6 runs.

Afridi plays an outrageous shot to bring the match to a close, dragging the ball from well outside the off-stump over square leg for six.

Pakistan's game plan has worked perfectly in this match, winning the toss and keeping Sri Lanka to a total within Pakistan's reach. Angelo Mathews did a good job of getting Sri Lanka a decent total on the board with some late hitting, though 145 always looked a little light on this pitch.

Pakistan started their reply patiently, with Sharjeel and Hafeez putting on 57 for the second wicket at around a run a ball. This set the scene for the lower order batsmen to have a go, in particular Shahid Afridi whos 39 off 20 balls earned him the man of the match award.

A successful start to the series for Pakistan who now know that a win in the second game will move them to the top of the T20 world rankings.

Good work from Dilshan but Bhatti just about makes his ground.

17.2
Four Runs
FOUR! Perera to Bhatti. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, top edge in the air uncontrolled past third man for 4 runs.

Fortunate for Bhatti as the top edge clears the keeper and Malinga can't quite cut it off at third man.

APPEAL! Malinga to Bhatti. Full toss, middle stump no foot movement working, outside edge to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by Sangakkara, appeal made for L.B.W.

Another big appeal from Malinga but that appears to have come off the edge and on to the pad. Good decision.

Malinga has completely bamboozled Maqsood with the slower ball and he is hit with a yorker right in front of middle. Easy decision for the umpire.

Pure power from Afridi who drives the ball high over deep point for 6. He's put them in a commanding position with those two sixes, 29 off 24 required for victory.

Catch
OUT! Caught. Malinga to Amin. Half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed in the air under control to cover, fielded by Chandimal.

Amin has nailed that straight to Chandimal at cover and Sri Lanka are celebrating as if that means victory. Boom Boom on his way to the crease.

13.6

SIX! Mendis to Maqsood. Off break length ball, down leg side no foot movement Slog, well timed in the air under control over deep mid wicket for 6 runs.

That came at the right time for Pakistan as the required rate was starting to get a little too high. He clears the rope by quite a distance with that. 50 off 36 required.

11.4
Run Out
OUT! Run Out. Mendis to Maqsood. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, back to bowler, mis-fielded by Mendis.

Very fortunate for Sri Lanka and very unlucky for Akmal. Mendis bends over to field the ball and it manages to squeeze through his hands, off his foot and on to the stumps. Akmal is marginally out of his crease and the third umpire sends him on his way.

11.3
Wicket
OUT! L.B.W. Mendis to Hafeez. Off break length ball, off stump no foot movement sweeping, hit pad.

The captain is gone and the problems are mounting up for Pakistan. He goes to sweep the ball hard and it comes on a little quicker than he expects and is trapped right in front. Good decision.
