Butcher and Edwards front camps
Aspiring cricketers who attend MCC Spirit of Cricket summer camps across London next week will have the chance to learn from England legends Mark Butcher and Charlotte Edwards.
The four one-day summer camps - at venues across the capital - are part of a collaboration between MCC and Chance to Shine, the Cricket Foundation's campaign to regenerate and encourage competitive cricket in state schools all over the country.
Camps are being held in the following areas; Tottenham (August 17), Wembley (18), Kidbrooke (19) and Millwall (20).
Edwards said: “These camps are a fun way for youngsters to improve their skills or perhaps try something new.
“I never had these sorts of opportunities when I was younger and this is a fantastic way to inspire youngsters to play.”
For just £8 per day, the day-long camps will give wannabe cricket stars the chance to develop their skills in the core elements of bowling, batting and fielding.
On the final day, the girls will get to put their new found skills into practice with a mini-World Cup competition.
Inspiration for the youngsters, and an introduction to the Spirit of Cricket, will be provided by the former England and Surrey batsman Butcher, and Edwards, the England women’s captain, on August 17.
England women vice-captain Jenny Gunn (18 & 19), seamer Katherine Brunt (19 & 20), and all-rounder Danielle Hazell (17 & 18) will also be on hand to offer the youngsters tips.
MCC head of cricket John Stephenson, the former Hampshire, Essex and England all-rounder, added: “The summer camp provides a perfect opportunity for boys and girls in London, of all abilities, to give cricket a go and learn to play in the best spirit possible.
“With the world-class standard of coaching on offer, who knows, we may find the next Charlotte Edwards or Andrew Strauss in London.”
