Chairman opens Hoveringham pavilion

ECB Chairman Giles Clarke officially opened Nottinghamshire based Hoveringham Cricket Club’s new pavilion last week during a trip to the region for the 1st npower Test Match at Trent Bridge.

As well as unveiling the new facilities on offer at the club, the Chairman was able to see the club’s junior section in full swing as they prepared for their weekend fixtures.

The club now hopes the new pavilion will allow them to retain existing and recruit new members for their current teams, and start a youth team. The building will also provide wider access to the whole community for non-cricketing purposes, being used for charity events, sports functions, private events, and as a meeting space.

Set to benefit more than 1,000 people, the construction of the new pavilion was made possible following a £50,000 grant from Biffaward, a multi-million pound environment fund managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts which uses landfill tax credits donated by Biffa Waste Services.

John Townsend, President, said: “The new pavilion has provided a fantastic opportunity for our club to open up our services to the whole community. The facilities will mean that more teams will be able to play at the club and benefit from the facilities on offer, as well as widen the scope for members of the community using the Club’s facilities."
