Morley presented with ECB Clubmark certificate
Morley Cricket Club has been presented with the ECB Clubmark certificate after it became the 68th club in Yorkshire to achieve the award.
The certificate was formally awarded on Friday June 22 at Morley's Willow Clubhouse in Scatcherd Lane by Mayor of Morley, Councillor Joyce Sanders. Other guests at the presentation were Councillor Terry Grayshon, Tony Bowry representing the Yorkshire Cricket Board, Alan and Debbie Wharton from the junior section sponsors Carpet-All, Chris Leathley from Morley High School along with officials and senior and junior players of the club.
"Our Club has been committed to ensuring it hits the highest standards at all times in respect of the coaching it provides for young players and in its management structures," said David Dowse, former Junior section chair.
"We have now official and external proof that the Club is achieving sport’s quality standard in the way it runs its cricket section. Many members of the junior section have put in a lot of work to provide the evidence for the ClubMark standard and this has now shown benefits."
In introducing the evening, Dowse, thanked all those who had contributed to ECB Clubmark accreditation process and urged that their success be viewed as a stepping-stone to ongoing improvement of all aspects of the Club’s activities.
The certificate was awarded by the Mayor who spoke of her past involvement with the Club and welcomed the progress the club is making at both senior and junior levels.
She played cricket at the club as little girl, she explained and was very pleased to know that girls are still involved. The award was accepted by Cricket Section Chair, Graeme Smith while two of the youngest members of the junior section – Phoebe Austin and Lucas Rossington – presented the Mayor with flowers.
In 2007, the club is running seven junior teams including an Under-9 side, an Under-11 side, an Under-12s, two teams at the Under-13 age group, Under-15 and Under-17 age groups.
The total number of clubs in Yorkshire which have achieved the ECB Clubmark award has now reached 74.
