Free commentary at Northants

Wantage Road

The free service is available on special receivers that can be obtained free of charge at the Northants County Ground Shop

Northamptonshire Association for the Blind are running ball-by-ball commentary at all First Class matches played at Wantage Road this summer.

This is a free service and the commentary, also available for one-day matches, is provided by special receivers that can be obtained free of charge at the County Ground Shop.

It has been in operation for two years and is much appreciated by the small group of enthusiasts who use the facility on a regular basis.

The NAB would, however, like to enlarge its base of customers and invite any cricket lover to travel to Wantage Road and rekindle their interest in the game of cricket.

“Thanks to the brilliant commentators I can now follow the match as if I was listening on the radio," said one regular listener.

"Moreover I never feel lonely when I spend a day at the cricket for I look on the audio describers as my friends."

Northamptonshire County Cricket Club have provided a special commentary box and are very supportive about this initiative. They have also generously agreed that any blind or partially sighted person will only have to pay £5 per day and their carer will be admitted free of charge.

If you wish to revive your interest in our traditional summer game, and have a friend or carer who can transport you to and from the ground, please contact the NAB via John Wood 01604 719193 who will be glad to let you have more details, or Ray Foster on 01604 881532.

Alternatively contact Barbara at the County Ground on 01604 514455 or e mail to arrange a special ticket and headset.
