Winning start for England Deaf team

ECB logo - small version

England made a confident start at the Deaf Cricket World Cup in India as they completed a 103-run victory against Sri Lanka in the opening group game.

England batted first and posted a useful total of 209 for nine in their 50 overs, with Warwickshire’s Chris Hughes leading the way with 84 not out.

Sri Lanka were soon in trouble in reply and were eventually skittled for 106. Cheshire all-rounder Paul Allen was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets for just 12 runs.

The result is a confidence boost ahead of England’s second game on Friday which sees them take on holders Australia.
