Youngsters excel in Telford

There were two junior matches and one exhibition game at a recent introductory day which was run by the Cricket Federation for People with Disabilities.

Barbarians won the two junior games while Oswestry took the spoils in the afternoon match.

In the morning Barbarians twice faced Glamorgan Green Caps in pairs format where both sides start with 200 runs and lose five runs each time they lose a wicket.

In the first match Barbarians secured a 12 run victory after their total of 238 proved too much for their opponents.

Steven Wiltshire top-scored for Barbarians with 12 not out while Huw O'Reilly and Jamie Graham also reached double figures. Charlie Vickers, of Barbarians, and Green Caps' Spencer Davies both took two wickets.

Barbarians continued their dominance to win the second game by 24 runs.

Batting first, Barbarians scored 248 with Wiltshire and Vickers scoring 15 not out and 13 respectively. For the fielding side, Alex Williams finished with two wickets.

In reply Gareth John top-scored with 16 not out but despite Danny Baggot and Cian Davies both hitting 14 the Green Caps paid for losing seven wickets which cost them 35 runs.

Vickers and Tom Griffiths both took two wickets apiece.

In the third match of the day, Oswestry ran out 25-run winners over Barbarians after amassing 254.

Barbarians batted first and with Wiltshire and Lewis Mountain both reaching double figures posted 229 once they were penalised 25 runs for losing five wickets.

Scott Winton led the Oswestry reply, hitting 30 runs - the top score of the day - to help his side to a comfortable win.
