ECB Disability Management Committee
The ECB Disability Management Committee was formed in 2005 as the successor to the ECB Disabilities Sub Group, which had been in place since 2000.
The purpose of the committee is to oversee the development and governance of all aspects of disability cricket in England and Wales. The committee is chaired by ECB’s National Disability Cricket Manager, Ian Martin.
Its members, who are all volunteers, are representatives of all the organisations that manage impairment specific cricket across England and Wales: Regional Disability Development Forum chairmen and representatives of other disability groups such as Special Olympics GB, London Community Cricket Association and The Lord's Taverners, who represent Table Cricket.
The committee makes policy decisions on behalf of ECB on the way that disability cricket is administered; they are the body to which any disciplinary or arbitration issues from the disabled game should be referred if they have been unable to be resolved within the impairment specific organisation such as ECAD or BACD or at County Board level.
Meetings are held quarterly at Lord's and the agenda allows for updates from each of the Impairment Specific representatives and from Regional Forum chairman so that all of the committee are kept abreast of developments across all aspects of the game. It is an opportunity for those present to share best practice being achieved in other groups and regions and for administrators to challenge practice and policy.
The Committee is able to appoint specific sub-groups to look at aspects of disability sport that affect cricket but of which knowledge within cricket is limited. A good example of this is the current Classification Sub Group. This Sub Group, led by Pete Edmondson, is taking a detailed look at the classifications used in all aspects of disability cricket to ensure that the current systems that we use are right for cricket.
The ECB Disability Management Committee, in partnership with those organisations that currently administer and deliver domestic and international disability cricket in England and Wales, work hard on behalf of those who play the game to deliver a national structure that is world-leading in terms of its coverage and levels of participation and a sport that is gaining in credibility as a disability sport.
If you have any questions regarding the work of the committee or any points that you would like the committee to address at its future meetings please direct them in the first instance to the chairmen of the Regional Disability Development Forums or to the representatives of the impairment group that your question is related to.
