ECAD at home at Lord's

Perhaps inspired by Lord's, ECAD comfortably beat the MCC at the home of cricket

England Cricket Association for the Deaf responded to the MCC's kind invitation to play at the home of cricket on Friday by handing out a convincing five-wicket drubbing with more than seven overs to spare.

The hosts won the toss and decided to bat despite it being a cloudy day with a blustery wind. After a slow start, MCC reached 44 before losing two quick wickets to Darrell Sykes and a run-out instigated by Stephen George.

Wycherley kept the scoreboard ticking over with a patient 51 at the top of the order and he received good support from Claypole and While. However, it wasn't until the introduction of Wright, who came in at 149 for six, that the innings really took off.

He smashed five huge sixes in a 19-ball half-century - an entertaining knock which took his side to 258 for nine. Sykes, with two wickets, and George, who finished with 1-26 from 10 overs, were the pick of the attack.

The visitors' reply began in postive fashion with openers Umesh Valjee and Chris Hughes putting on 75 for the first wicket.

The MCC were buoyed by a double breakthrough but the batting side stayed on course with Hughes hitting 12 boundaries in his 59 before Mike O'Mahony added the second half-century of the innings at quicker than a run a ball.

He eventually fell at 150 for five but Ben Young and Nigel Davenport shared 18 boundaries between them to ensure the ECAD coasted home.
