Mike O’Mahony struck a crucial 113 as England Deaf replied strongly to Australia’s first innings total in the second and deciding Ashes Test.
O’Mahony, who hit 21 fours and a six, added 227 for the second wicket with opener Chris Hughes (81) as the hosts posted 302 on day two of three in reply to Australia’s 385 yesterday.
England then removed Australia's top three in quick time to leave the visitors 147 runs ahead going into the final day at Colwyn Bay CC.
Mohammad Farooq, who conceded no runs in his two overs, removed the visitors’ dangerous number three Nick Watkins for 11.
Earlier, Australia bowlers Kym Daley (4-103) and Michael Parrermore (3-24) ensured England did not pass their first innings total.
England need to force victory tomorrow to regain the Ashes from holders Australia.
