Ashtead get in early
The new season might be months away but that has not deterred Ashtead Cricket Club from getting busy this winter.
The Surrey-based club are one of this year's NatWest CricketForce showcase clubs and have started work on their Woodfield Lane ground early.
NatWest CricketForce encourages cricket supporters, their friends and families to give something back to their local community cricket club by volunteering to undertake major renovations to clubhouses and grounds.
Ashtead's members have certainly got in the spirit.
The old tea hut has been demolished, courtesy of a 20-strong wrecking crew, a jeep, axe and a few ropes, and replaced with a new groundsman's shed.
Not finished there, the group reconvened days later to gut the pavilion before it was also levelled in preparation for a new replacement to be installed. The shell is due to be delivered and erected by the middle of February.
All this before the NatWest CricketForce event which comes to Ashtead on Friday 3rd April.
