Macknade volunteer flying in
Thousands of volunteers are preparing to take part in NatWest CricketForce 2005 this weekend but none are expected to travel as far as former Macknade Cricket Club player Paul Begg.
Begg is one of the club’s overseas members and will be flying over 3,500 miles all the way from Toronto in Canada to help out with the work planned at the club.
Macknade’s Club and Ground Manager Ian Jemmett said: “This must be the furthest any participant in the CricketForce event will have travelled."
Around 50 volunteers from the club and local community in Faversham will converge to give the club a complete makeover. Planned work includes the building of a new scoreboard and storage shed, as well as numerous other jobs to give the ground a new lease of life.
Macknade CC, which this year celebrates 70 years at the heart of sport in Faversham, will also hold a disco and auction on April 9 to mark the re-launch of the club.
