Macknade reap rewards from NWCF
Macknade CC were able to use NatWest CricketForce as a means to finish improving their ground facilities.
Following the considerable improvements in the clubhouse over the winter, the Faversham-based club completed the major works on two new net lanes and graded them into the landscape and outfield.
Macknade have been participating in NatWest CricketForce since 2005 and the first day saw 15 volunteers help to move earth on the first day.
Secretary Trevor Martin said: “My son borrowed my spade and managed to break the handle on the second trailer load so I ended up dragging the hand roller most of the day!”
On day two, Macknade turned their attention to preparations of the playing area. The outfield area was checked for potentially dangerous holes, which were filled with a loam/seed mix and rolled in by a three-man team.
The outfield was cut and the first cut of next weekend’s wickets made. The hot sun meant the first wickets needed watering before rolling on Monday.
Work also continued on the new net lanes as well as on the ground. The clubhouse was hired out for a children's party following its makeover during the winter.
