Grand plans for NWCF 2011

Graeme Swann

Graeme Swann helps out at Gedling Colliery - one of 85,000 volunteers who lent a hand at last year's event

A staggering 1,000 clubs have already signed up for NatWest CricketForce 2011 as momentum begins to build ahead of next year's event.

The current record of 1,642 clubs - set this year - looks set to be smashed as volunteers of all ages come together to support their local cricket club.

In 2010 a total of 85,000 volunteers helped clubs in their chosen projects which ranged from building new pavilions to painting advertising boards, or from cleaning guttering to laying new cricket nets.

A number of England internationals joined in with England captains Andrew Strauss and Charlotte Edwards picking up a paintbrush at Harrow St Mary's CC while Graeme Swann popped in to help at Gedling Colliery CC and James Anderson lent a hand at Scarborough CC.

The NatWest CricketForce 2011 weekend will take place on the weekend of the 8th, 9th and 10th April.
