The ECB would advise that clubs (who are currently operating under a drought restriction order) should undertake a risk assessment of the cricket square at a point where the square is showing signs of drought related stress.
Assessments should be initiated by the secretary of the club in conjunction with the groundsman with the records kept on site. Further guidance is available on frequency of watering, method of watering and water management within this website.
Should an assessment evidence a risk to health and safety of players water companies reserve the right to allow reduced levels of restriction under an order.
In periods of heightened restriction no exemption will be provided as public health and safety will take precedence.
