Vaughan backs NWCF Fundraiser

Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan sees the NatWest CricketForce Fundraiser as a chance to raise money as well as create a club "togetherness"

Michael Vaughan has issued a rallying call to clubs up and down the country as preparations for the NatWest CricketForce Fundraiser gather pace.

The former England captain has thrown his support behind the new ECB initiative, which encourages amateur clubs to organise fundraising events in a bid to boost their coffers and improve facilities.

The NWCF Fundraiser - a precursor to NatWest CricketForce next April - is being held over the Bank Holiday weekend from August 28-30, and Vaughan is urging clubs not to waste a golden opportunity.

“It’s all about encouraging clubs to come up with some events - quizzes, race nights, Twenty20 matches - to raise money to help them with new equipment and refurbishments,” he told ecb.co.uk.

“The most important thing is to try and improve the facilities for all the players that are coming through, to give them the best chance to play at the top level.”

For Vaughan, the value of the event stretches behind material gains, although the first 100 clubs that register will win a bat signed by the man who led his country in 51 Tests and remains England's most successful captain.

“Days like this are so important for clubs,” he said. “It’s a trigger to get people involved.

“You have all the teams together, all the wives and girlfriends helping out, the local community gets involved - it creates a togetherness at the cricket club.”
