Edmonton's juniors celebrate their award

Edmonton CC and Mossley Hill CC have both been made awards as part of the Barclays Spaces for Sports £30m grassroots programme.

Mossley Hill – which has been extremely successful in engaging young people in cricket across Merseyside - have been donated a complete set of coaching kit and equipment for their junior teams.

Edmonton CC has received a full set of kit and training equipment, a boost for its respected juniors scheme, which will help it expand and provide more coaching in local primary schools and benefit more youngsters in the local area.

The awards are part of Barclays Spaces for Sports £30m investment aimed at creating sustainable sports facilities in communities across the UK – as a result of a partnership between Barclays, the Football Foundation and Groundwork.

The donations are two of 1,200 packs being awarded each year to ensure teams across the UK will benefit from the three-year scheme.

New Zealand Test player James Marshall, who made the presentation to Mossley Hill (left), said: “I am delighted to present this award to the young people of Merseyside and hope that this will encourage more young people to take an active part in sport. I thank Barclays for this brilliant initiative and support for grassroots cricket.”

Dave Fanning, Mossley’s Junior Welfare Officer, said: “We are delighted with the kit donation from Barclays. The kit and equipment will enable us to improve our junior coaching on a larger scale and build on the skills and ability of the young cricketers.”

Edmonton CC coach Anthony Kershaw added: “This award from Barclays is a great help for the club as limited resources restrict expansion. The award will ease the financial burden involved in visiting primary schools and coaching our own Colts and help attract more youngsters to cricket.”
