ASDA Kwik Cricket National Finals 2006 – Tuesday July 18, Trent Bridge
The most successful ASDA Kwik Cricket season on record culminates this Tuesday, July 18, with the National Finals Day to be held at Trent Bridge from 10am.
This year 100,000 boys and 15,000 girls in 12,000 teams took part in the ASDA Kwik Cricket Competition which represents a strong increase on last year when around 90,000 boys and girls took part.
This growth continues to clearly demonstrate what the Ashes meant to the English cricketing public, and how much it has helped the game on all levels, from playground to Test arena.
Last summer’s Ashes hero Andrew Flintoff has played a prominent role in ASDA Kwik Cricket, launching the 2006 competition at Edgbaston earlier this summer prior to the 2nd npower Test against Sri Lanka.
This year has seen local ASDA stores teaming up with organisers of local festivals and supplying drinking water, healthy snacks and fruit to encourage healthy eating among those children taking part. ASDA Kwik Cricket offers the ideal link between healthy eating and an active lifestyle.
Kwik Cricket demonstrations have been a regular fixture at each of the npower Test matches this summer; numerous children from local schools have enjoyed playing the game on the outfield during the lunch and tea intervals at each international Test match.
