Andy Caddick helped Bude North Cornwall CC’s NatWest CricketForce 2006 weekend really take off by flying in to the Cornwall club’s event by helicopter.
The Somerset paceman, who is a qualified helicopter pilot, flew down from Taunton and landed in a field next to Bude’s picturesque Crooklets Cricket Ground on the clifftops overlooking the Atlantic coast.
And while the former England bowler may not have been able to pass on any flying tips to the eager crowd of volunteers, he did find time to do some coaching in the visiting ECB Cricket Factory.
Caddick also bowled at some of Bude’s older juniors in the nets, was on hand for the obligatory autograph session and presentations – and did some painting to help out with the club’s major schedule of ground works.
As well as repainting the pavilion dressing rooms and fitting a new shower unit in the Umpires Room, Bude were also the happy recipients of a new electronic scoreboard – donated free by Daktronics as part of their deal with ECB as an Official Supporter of NatWest CricketForce 2006.
The club gave their scorebox an overhaul at the same time, installing electric lighting and painting it internally; as well doing repairs in the ground’s main garage and rear storage shed.
