Some young volunteers get stuck into painting the perimeter wall

Around 40 hardy volunteers assembled at Knypersley Cricket Club on Saturday to help prepare the club for the coming season through their NatWest CricketForce 2006 event.

A large number of the club’s youngsters were amongst the volunteers who carried out work on the newly constructed drainage system on the ground. This included shifting 20 tons of gravel to help fill in the drains as well as re-turfing areas where the drains have been installed on the outfield.

Other work included painting, replacing showers in the dressing rooms, preparing the kitchen for the new season, covering the covers and alterations to the score box.

Heavy rain and hail eventually put a halt to the work mid afternoon but not before a considerable amount of work had been done.

Club chairman Joe Cumberbatch thanked everyone for their efforts saying, “We are really pleased with the turnout. Without this sort of effort the club would be really struggling and it was a great day.”

Knypersley CC was one of 1,050 clubs across the country that registered, and took part, in the now annual NatWest CricketForce weekend.

Knypersley open their season with a double header starting on Saturday April 12 when Porthill Park are the visitors for the opening match in the North Staffs & South Cheshire League Premier Division.

The following day Birmingham League side Walsall are the visitors to Tunstall Road for a first round tie in the Staffordshire Cup.

Pakistan star batsman Qaiser Abbas will again return as professional for Knypersley, who will be captained by Steve Brew.
