NatWest staff on hand for Heywood

Staff from the Rochdale and Heywood branches of NatWest turned out to help Heywood CC’s band of 40 volunteers with their NatWest CricketForce 2006 programme.

Branch manager Mike Clarke, deputy manager Phil Fry and their colleagues helped out with the renovations at the Crimble site – as well as a Community Cashback Award of £500 to the club to help with the costs of materials and sponsorship towards the 2006 season.

The whole weekend was organised by Fundraising Chairman Martyn Shaw and jobs undertaken ranged from putting up practice nets and carrying out maintenance work on the scoreboard to painting the changing rooms a new shade of blue - which hopefully won’t reflect the mood of the team this season!

Refreshments were provided by the tea room ladies, who also used the time to prepare the catering facilities ready for the start of the new season.

Clarke said: “NatWest CricketForce has provided a superb focus for our club to make Crimble ready for the new season.

“It gave the whole club, from first team captain Bobby Cross to 12-year-old Andrew Dawson, and its friends from the Heywood community, the chance to pull together and improve the ground.

“And some volunteers showed that their strokes with the brush were nearly as good as their strokes with the willow!”
