The team at Ross-on-Wye CC who transformed their ramshackle 1887 pavilion last year were back in action at 2008 NatWest CricketForce in a relentless bid to improve, tidy and modernise.
The weather had been a nightmare, reported club secretary Therese Warwick, the 'Behind the Scenes' winner at the 2007 NatWest OSCAs for her efforts in organising a new £5,500 roof, new struts, new floor, a complete rewiring and much more besides last time round.
But the list of jobs was taking shape.
"There are masses of jobs around the ground and pavilion as usual and some new fencing should be installed before the start of the season.
"We are trying to excavate the remains of 100 leylandii. The council ground out most of them but there are a few biggies left in there.... water, water everywhere.... nice!"
According to Therese, the Ross-on-Wye team had some extra NatWest CricketForce helpers who were bemused by their levels of energy and enthusiasm.
"The Probation Service sent us some young volunteers last weekend and they are joining us on Saturday," she reported.
"It will be good for them to see that their 'volunteering' is only what we do ourselves only maybe not under the same duress!
"The weather was so atrocious here on Saturday so we had the opportunity to come in out of the rain for an extended lunch break and get to know them a bit better. They described us as "nutters" - that made me laugh!
"Some who were going to complete their hours last weekend seemed genuinely sorry that they weren't going to be with us this weekend! That's what a cup of tea and a doughnut can do! And the promise of a bacon sarnie and BBQ for lunch!"
