Since NatWest CricketForce last year Shepperton CC, which was a showcase club with a mountain of improvements to tackle, has seen a dramatic increase in bar takings giving the Club a major financial boost.
In early 2007, the old pavilion was an old army nissen hut with no heating and the most spartan facilities which meant it remained empty during the winters.
But as part of NatWest CricketForce, it was demolished and replaced with a brand new wooden clubhouse complete with radiators and a bar.
Since the end of the 2007 season, the new pavilion, which was officially opened in June 2007, has been a popular meeting place for members and available as a venue to hire which has meant takings have shot up by £10,000.
"It makes it all worthwhile," said Gordon Robinson, club chairman.
So in 2008, Shepperton CC were back supporting NatWest Cricket Force once again.
"We are spreading the work over three weekends this year to make life a bit easier for all of us," Gordon explained.
"Most of what we are doing is finishing off or repairing from last year. For example, we are building a new shed for storage, repairing the outfield, building and painting boundary boards using the roof of the old pavilion and restaining the pavilion."
"We also plan to dig up and resurface the nets – but this probably will have to wait until later in the season. All in all, a lot less stressful than last year!"
