Volunteers bloom at Rose Bowl
Hampshire County Cricket Club and Hampshire Cricket Board teamed up to reward volunteers at the inaugural Hampshire Cricket Volunteers Day.
Over 600 tickets were distributed to volunteers working within cricket clubs throughout the county for the Pro40 match between Hampshire Hawks and Somerset Sabres.
This event is the first of its kind within Hampshire and is part of Hampshire's continuing efforts to further engage with the cricketing community across the county.
Retail and Marketing Executive, Andy Milnes, was pleased to be able to support local clubs in such a positive way.
"The efforts of local volunteers has a direct impact on the number of talented young players coming into our squad as well as the number of spectators coming through the gates.
"The success of Hampshire relies upon the ongoing work of local clubs and this is our way of saying thank you to the people that keep these clubs running."
Hampshire Cricket Board provided a buffet lunch for some of the most remarkable and committed volunteers in Hampshire, including the year’s Nat West OSCAs winners who were presented with their awards in front of a 4,000 strong crowd during the interval.
Cricket Development Officer, Greig Stewart, spoke of the importance of volunteers in Hampshire.
"Volunteers are vital in ensuring the future of cricket at all levels. Cricket Volunteers Day is designed to recognise the efforts of volunteers and increase awareness of the need for volunteering in grassroots cricket. This is not a one off event but part of a long-term strategy to encourage more people to help out at their local cricket clubs."
