April - claims in a television interview that he left the India tour due to a virus.

September - opts out of the ICC Champions Trophy in India.
November - withdraws from Ashes tour due to a stress-related illness, admitting he had also suffered from the same problem in India, not a virus.
2007:
May - hits career-best 284 for Somerset against Northamptonshire.
July 11 - named in England's provisional 30-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in South Africa in September.
July 25 - rules himself out of the World Twenty20, because he feels he has not completely recovered from his stress-related illness.
September 9 - speaks for the first time about his stress-related illness and insists he will not “sacrifice his health” to make an international return.
December 7 - admits avoiding the international game may have helped his recovery from his illness and says he does not know when he will return to Test cricket.
2008:
March 15 - withdraws from Somerset’s pre-season tour to Dubai after suffering a recurrence of the stress-related illness.
March 17 - Somerset director of cricket Brian Rose confident Trescothick will be in the right frame of mind to tackle the forthcoming county campaign.
March 22 - announces the end of his England career.
