Marcus Trescothick
1975: December 25 - born, Keynsham, Somerset.
1992: Selected for England under-19 tour of South Africa.
1993: Makes Somerset debut.
1995: Captains England Under-19 on tour of West Indies.
1999: Catches eye of future England coach Duncan Fletcher with brilliant 167 against Glamorgan at Taunton.

2000:
July - hits 79 on England one-day international debut against Zimbabwe.
August - hits 66 on 38 not out on Test debut against West Indies at Old Trafford.

2001:
February - hits maiden Test century against Sri Lanka at Galle.
October - captains England in fourth ODI against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo.

2002: Scores 354 runs at average of 88.5 in three-Test series against Sri Lanka.

2003: Scores 219 and 69no in series-levelling last Test victory against South Africa at The Oval.

2004:
May - captains England in first Test against New Zealand at Lord's in absence of injured Michael Vaughan.
August - scores centuries in both innings in second Test against West Indies at Edgbaston.

2005:
January - hits 180 in fourth-Test victory over South Africa at Johannesburg.
September - finishes victorious Ashes series with 431 runs.
November - hits 193 as stand-in captain in first Test against Pakistan in Multan.

2006:
February - returns home from England's tour of India due to personal reasons.
April - claims in a television interview that he left the India tour due to a virus.
May - hits century in first Test against Sri Lanka at Lord's.
September - opts out of the ICC Champions Trophy in India.
November - withdraws from Ashes tour due to a stress-related illness, admitting he had also suffered from the same problem in India, not a virus.

2007:
May - hits career-best 284 for Somerset against Northamptonshire.
July 11 - named in England's provisional 30-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in South Africa in September.
July 25 - rules himself out of the World Twenty20, because he feels he has not completely recovered from his stress-related illness.
September 9 - speaks for the first time about his stress-related illness and insists he will not “sacrifice his health” to make an international return.
December 7 - admits avoiding the international game may have helped his recovery from his illness and says he does not know when he will return to Test cricket.

2008:
March 15 - withdraws from Somerset’s pre-season tour to Dubai after suffering a recurrence of the stress-related illness.
March 17 - Somerset director of cricket Brian Rose confident Trescothick will be in the right frame of mind to tackle the forthcoming county campaign.
March 22 - announces the end of his England career.
