County champions Sussex have been boosted by the news that Mushtaq Ahmed will be available to play this season.
There were fears at Hove that the Pakistani leg-spinner, who took 90 wickets in their title-winning campaign last summer, would not be eligibile to play in 2008 due to his involvement in a rebel twenty20 league.
But the Pakistan Cricket Board have granted Mushtaq a No Objection Certificate, ensuring he meets the ECB’s regulation requirements.
Sussex chief executive Gus Mackay said: “The necessary paperwork for the ECB has now been completed and Mushy will return to Sussex this season.
“We were always confident he would be okay but it has been a nervous wait so we are very happy that his registration has now been completed.”
Cricket manager Mark Robinson added: “We are pleased we can get on with finalising our preparations for the season and defence of our title, of which Mushy will obviously play a key role.”
