Birks takes top prize
The England and Wales Cricket Board today confirmed the 2012 Groundsman of the Year Awards.
Steve Birks from Trent Bridge is the winner of the four-day category with Stuart Kerrison from Chelmsford taking the runner-up prize.
In the one-day category, the winner is Andy Mackay from Hove with the runner-up prize awarded to Headingley Carnegie’s Andy Fogarty.
Commendations went to Andy Ward (Grace Road) and Gary Barwell (Edgbaston) in the four-day pitch category, while Andy Ward (Grace Road), Neil Godrich (Derby) and David Measor (Emirates Durham ICG) were commended in the one-day category.
Gareth Millthorpe from Leeds/Bradford is the winner for pitches at MCC Universities with Will Relf at Loughborough and Paul Derrick from Durham sharing the runner-up prize. John Dodds at Scarborough was awarded the Outgrounds prize with Vic Demain runner-up in respect of his work at Uxbridge.
Every pitch is rated at the end of the match by each of the umpires with these ratings used as the basis for making the awards.
