Michael Bourne has been appointed as the ECB’s new Head of Sport Science and Medicine based at the National Cricket Performance Centre at Loughborough University.

Bourne, who is currently ECB’s National Lead for Performance Analysis, succeeds Simon Timson in the post following the latter’s recent appointment as Director of Performance at UK Sport.

His previous experience includes a five-year stint with the English Institute of Sport where he was Regional Lead Analyst for a variety of sports including judo, athletics, badminton and boxing.

ECB Managing Director – England Cricket, Hugh Morris said: “Michael has performed impressively in leading our team of analysts based at Loughborough and within the first-class counties and his promotion to this role after a highly competitive recruitment process is fully deserved.

“While we were naturally disappointed to lose Simon, we wish him well in his new post and would like to thank him for the immense contribution he made in developing a sport science and medicine team which has won national recognition for its level of knowledge and expertise.”
