Glamorgan hit by two-point penalty

An ECB Pitch Panel comprising pitch liaison officers Mike Denness and Tony Pigott was convened to consider the pitch used for the Friends Provident Trophy match at Cardiff between Glamorgan and Essex on May 12.

After considering the pitch report of umpires Richard Illingworth and Neil Mallender, and following interviews with the umpires, the captain and coach of both teams and the Glamorgan head groundsman, the pitch panel upheld the umpires’ decision that the pitch had demonstrated excessive turn and should therefore be rated 'poor'.

According to regulations, Glamorgan are penalised two points. This penalty will apply in the 2010 Friends Provident Trophy competition.
