ECB pledges flood relief for Cumbria
The England and Wales Cricket Trust Ltd has made a relief fund available to provide urgent assistance for cricket clubs across Cumbria affected by the recent floods.
At least five clubs across Cumbria - Workington, Cockermouth, Carlisle, Keswick and Appleby - have been severely affected by the recent flooding and the EWCT, a charitable trust established by the ECB, has allocated an initial £50,000 to support ECB-affiliated clubs in the area.
The priority is to provide immediate financial and logistical support that will be focused on the following:
- enabling works such as access roads and services
- ensuring cricket clubs are safe for entry
- decontamination (subject to consents)
- general clearance and clean up
- hire or purchase of machinery to aid the process
Commenting on this announcement, David Collier, ECB chief executive, said: “In 2008 a number of clubs suffered from flooding, and sadly in recent days Cumbria has been affected by flooding.
“We have been advised by the Cumbria Cricket Board that five clubs are in urgent need of assistance and I am pleased to be able to announce the ECB, through the EWCT, has set aside funds to help these clubs deal with the immediate after effects of the flooding in this time of need.”
