England A to tour West Indies
ECB have confirmed that the England A Team will be touring the West Indies in February and March 2006 to play two A Team Tests and five A Team one-day internationals against a West Indies A team.
David Graveney, Chairman of Selectors, said: “We are delighted with the itinerary agreed with West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) which provides our A Team with an excellent programme of cricket a year in advance of the World Cup in the Caribbean.
“Antigua, St Lucia and Barbados should be key venues for England’s World Cup campaign in 2007 and whilst we will not be able to play on the World Cup grounds in Antigua and Barbados because of their redevelopment, the opportunity to play on these islands will be of considerable value for our World Cup preparations.
“The England A Team is expected to be announced following the conclusion of England’s tour to Pakistan at the same time the squads for the England tour to India are announced.”
Peter Moores, ECB National Academy Director, who will be heading the management team for the tour said: “The tour presents an exciting opportunity for players to impress in a programme of extremely competitive A Team international cricket.
“The tour will assist planning for the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean and has been timed to conclude shortly before the scheduled start of England’s one-day international programme in India to enable any England ODI specialists to arrive in India ‘match-fit’.”
