Test captain Andrew Strauss is one of several England players stepping up preparations for next year's Test series against Pakistan by joining England Performance Programme camps in South Africa and India throughout December.

No less than seven members of the England Test team will undertake training camps in Potchefstroom, Pune and Mumbai over the first three weeks of next month to escalate preparations ahead of the three-Test series with Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates in January.

Strauss will join the EPP training camps in Pune and Mumbai along with Test wicketkeeper Matt Prior and batsman Eoin Morgan, who is returning from a shoulder injury.

After being rested from England's recent limited-overs tour of India, James Anderson will join up with the EPP training camp in Potchefstroom along with fellow bowlers Stuart Broad and Chris Tremlett - who are returning from shoulder and back injuries respectively - plus Graham Onions.

The England Development Programme will also be training in Potchefstroom during December.

England performance director David Parsons said: "The England Performance Programme camps will offer the England players the perfect chance to step up their training and preparations ahead of the forthcoming Test series against Pakistan in January.

"These camps will not only see the players working on their cricketing and physical preparations through training but will also involve matches in highly suitable conditions which will provide an invaluable form of practice prior to commencing a Test series in sub-continental conditions.

"The players attending these camps didn't participate in England's recent ODI tour of India or have been sidelined through injury so this is the ideal opportunity to build up their preparations during an important period leading into January and provides the talented young players on both the EPP and EDP programmes a chance to train alongside and learn from some of the very best."
