Holmes suspension lifted
Maurice Holmes has been cleared to resume bowling following a re-assessment, although his 'doosra' is still deemed illegal by the ECB
The ECB today confirmed that Maurice Holmes’ suspension from bowling for England and in competitive county cricket has been lifted with immediate effect.
This follows a request by the bowler for re-assessment as permitted within the ECB regulations, and follows a period of remedial work on his bowling action after an initial analysis in June 2011 was invalidated on the basis that he was unable to replicate the action used in matches under laboratory conditions.
The independent analysis found the ‘doosra’ delivery of Holmes to be illegal and the player has been warned against bowling that particular delivery in competitive county cricket.
A comprehensive analysis revealed that his action for the ‘doosra’ did not meet the requirements as laid down in the regulations. But the same assessment found that Holmes’ off-break delivery was bowled within the tolerance level and so he can continue to bowl this type of delivery in competitive county cricket.
The ECB will make no further comment on this matter.
