The ECB Cricket Discipline Commission confirmed today that Robert Key has been reprimanded and fined £1250 following his comments relating to an ECB Pitch Panel convened at Riverside in August.
Key's comments were deemed to be a serious breach of the directives by a senior player and captain, involving derogatory comment prejudicial to both the ECB and its members.
In admitting the offence, Key stated: "I fully recognise and understand my responsibilities as captain of Kent and acknowledge that the public comments I made following the ECB Pitch Panel at Riverside in August were inappropriate and I offer my unreserved apology to all concerned."
The matter is now closed. ECB will make no further comment.
