Tom Lungley

Tom Lungley has been suspended for two Second XI matches and hit with a suspended £1,000 fine

The England and Wales Cricket Board today confirmed that two Derbyshire cricketers have received penalties under the ECB’s discipline code.

Following incidents in the Second XI Championship match between Leicestershire and Derbyshire on July 1-3,2009, Tom Lungley was reported by umpires Ismail Dawood and Dean Johnson for a Level Two breach of the code (showing serious dissent at an umpire’s decision by word or action), for which he has received three penalty points.

In a separate incident in the same match, Lungley was reported by the umpires for a Level Three breach of the code (intimidating an umpire or referee), for which he has received six penalty points.

In the same match, Dan Birch was reported by the umpires for a Level Two breach of the code (showing serious dissent at an umpire’s decision by word or action), for which he has received three penalty points.

In a separate incident in the same match, Birch was reported by the umpires for a Level Three breach of the code (threatening to assault another player, team official or spectator), for which he has received six penalty points.

As a result of accumulating nine penalty points, both players have received a automatic suspension for a period covering Derbyshire’s next two competitive Second XI matches.

They have therefore not been allowed to participate in any cricket under the jurisdiction of the ECB until July 11 2009.

Derbyshire has also investigated these incidents. In addition to the suspension above, a further one-match suspension has been imposed on each player with immediate effect along with a fine of £1,000 suspended for 12 months.
