Panesar earns increment contract

New Zealand England

ECB today announced that Sussex left-arm spinner Monty Panesar has been awarded an England increment contract for 2012-13.

Panesar qualifies for the award by virtue of having played three Test matches against India and one versus New Zealand during the current contractual period.

Non-contracted players can earn an England increment contract via a points system. Five points are awarded for a Test appearance and two for a Twenty20 or one-day international appearance, with an increment contract being awarded automatically once the player reaches 20 points during the 12-month contract period.

ECB National Selector Geoff Miller said: "This award reflects the contribution Monty has made to the Test team during the winter and I would like to congratulate him on his achievements."
