Shahzad bolsters England squad
Yorkshire paceman Ajmal Shahzad has today been added to England’s NatWest Series ODI squad following a hamstring strain to Nottinghamshire’s Ryan Sidebottom.
Sidebottom, who has been ruled out of Nottinghamshire's Friends Provident t20 match this evening, suffered a grade one strain to his left hamstring during his county's six-wicket win over Worcestershire on Sunday.
Sidebottom will remain with the England squad, where he will receive ongoing rehabilitation and further assessment.
Shahzad will join the England squad tonight ahead of preparations for Saturday’s Scotland ODI, commencing at the National Cricket Performance Centre tomorrow.
National selector Geoff Miller said: “It’s a shame Ryan has picked up this injury as he’s been injury-free for some time now and bowling well.
“Thankfully, it’s a relatively minor injury and we look forward to him making a full recovery soon.
“Ajmal Shahzad is a strong addition to the squad and he’ll no doubt be looking to build on his maiden ODI appearance for England in Bangladesh over the winter.”
