Replay ruled out
On-field umpires Peter Willey and Michael Gough yesterday acknowledged that they miscalculated the number of powerplay overs available to Somerset in their Friends Provident Trophy victory over Middlesex on May 17.
However, after consideration and following an approach from Middlesex, the England and Wales Cricket Board decided to uphold the precedent that umpire errors cannot form the basis to declare a match null and void.
The ECB has great sympathy for the position in which Middlesex has been placed but a replay cannot be ordered in these circumstances.
