The ECB today announced the England Under-19 squad for the Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka Under-19 beginning on August 2 at Emirates Durham ICG.

Paul Best (Warwickshire) will captain England U19 in the two-match series. Seam bowler James Thorpe (Sussex) and opening batsman Alex Barrow (Somerset) have been named in the squad for the first time.

England U19 coach Adrian Birrell said: “This T20 series provides a great opportunity to showcase the young talent in this country against a very good Sri Lanka Under-19 team.

“Good performances in these matches and the one-day series that follows will provide a crucial platform for those players looking to further progress up the ladder in the national set-up.”

An England U17 squad has also been named for a one-day game against Sri Lanka U19 on August 5 at Sleaford CC, Lincolnshire, ahead of the first ODI between England U19 and Sri Lanka U19 at Fenner’s on August 7.
