Mervyn Westfield was jailed after admitting a charge of corruptly accepting or obtaining, or agreeing to accept or obtain, corrupt payments

The ECB cricket discipline commission today announced that the former Essex bowler Mervyn Westfield has been served with an interim suspension from all cricket under the ECB’s jurisdiction.

The interim suspension was imposed by the chairman of the ECB’s cricket discipline commission, Gerard Elias, QC, pending a disciplinary panel hearing, to be held in due course, relating to an alleged breach of ECB directives regarding betting, match-fixing and forecasting during the 2009 season.

Earlier today, Westfield was sentenced to four months in jail after admitting a charge of corruptly accepting or obtaining, or agreeing to accept or obtain, corrupt payments.
