The England women’s selectors have named an extremely strong 14-player Academy squad to play two 50-over matches and a Twenty20 match against international opposition ahead of the full international women’s series.
Rosalie Birch and Stephanie Davies, who helped England retain the Ashes in Australia earlier this year, have both been named in the squad which will play Ireland and England on August 2 and 3 respectively at Wellington College.
A Twenty20 match is scheduled for August 4 against South Africa at Reading CC. This represents a fuller Academy programme than ever before with a view to further international opportunities in 2009.
Georgia Elwiss, who was named Most Improved Player at this year’s Super 4s, is also in the squad. Alexia Walker will captain the side, which will be coached by Paul Shaw.
