Lord Morris of Handsworth - independent non-executive director
The Hon Lord Morris of Handsworth OJ DL has been a member of the ECB Management Board since 2004.
Born in Jamaica, he worked his way through the ranks of the Transport and General Workers' Union to be elected as Britain's first black General Secretary in 1991 and held the post for 12 years before his retirement in 2003.
He is a former Non-Executive Director of the Bank of England and chaired The Morris Inquiry (a public inquiry) into the professional standards of the Metropolitan Police in 2004.
His current roles include Chairman of Midland Heart Housing Association, Member - Panel of Mergers and Takeovers; Member - Board of Trustees Performance, Birmingham (Symphony Hall and Town Hall) and Chancellor of Staffordshire University.
He was granted a Life Peerage in 2006, taking the title The Hon Lord Morris of Handsworth OJ DL.
