ECB Association of Cricket Officials

On Saturday May 1st a freak accident occurred at Illingworth Cricket Club in their First XI game against Harden in Division 2 of the Airedale and Wharfedale Senior Cricket League.

John Whittaker, the one of the league umpires, was standing at square leg when the ball was hit towards the boundary, fielded and thrown in.

Unfortunately John was watching the batsmen with his back to the fielder when the ball struck him on the left side of his face, knocking him to the ground.

John was taken to hospital where it was discovered he sustained a fractured skull.

ECB ACO can report that whilst still unwell, John is significantly better and now making progress.
