One Game Pledge past 2,000

Emily Monkhouse was the 2,000th person to add their name to the One Game Pledge after it was stationed at Westfield Shopping Centre for a fortnight.

The 11-year-old, who goes to school in Sevenoaks, made a pledge to ‘get into cricket’ after watching her brother play the game.

The youngster received a copy of the new One Game Book, signed by the author Patch Dolan, and will also receive one of the prints from the collection signed by the England teams.

“I couldn’t believe it when the phone rang and it was the ECB calling to say I had written the 2,000th lucky pledge,” she said.

“It was also a wonderful chance to meet Rosalie Birch, a member of England’s women cricket team, and have photos taken with her, Patch and the Ashes and Twenty20 trophies. I was even allowed to hold the trophies.

“It was a great experience which I will never forget and I am now keen to try and play some cricket over the summer.”

The last two weeks at Westfield has given the ECB a real opportunity to engage with people who may not yet have an interest in cricket, or even sport, and to begin to find out the reasons why.
