Need Volunteers?
Prior to recruiting more volunteers to your organisation it is important to know who you already have and what their roles are - what do they do?
Historically, club volunteers do everything! In some cases one person does the lot – which is admirable. But wouldn’t it be great to work in a team? Wouldn’t it be great to spark ideas off each other? Wouldn’t it be great if you were able to have that exciting website and newsletter? Wouldn’t it be great to introduce more youngsters to the game?
We're certain that you have answered yes to all the above and that you are able to think of many other ‘wouldn’t it be great ifs’.
So why not have a go? Order your Volunteer Pack first and then do an audit of your existing volunteers and their roles and then do a bit of blue-sky thinking.
Imagine all the possibilities and then separate out the different roles. Think also about the type of person who would be good in each role: you wouldn’t choose a shy, self-effacing introvert to do fundraising, would you?
Some of your needs will be advisory – such as advice on writing a funding-friendly constitution, helping you put together a development plan or even training on Child Welfare. There are advice-giving organisations out there that can help you with all these things.
There are also volunteer recruiting organisations out there that can help you recruit volunteers for the longer-term roles - in fact that is their raison d’etre.
The ECB is now a National Access Organization for The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and Millennium Volunteers. And this means that any activities clubs offer to young people aged between 14 and 25 can be accredited to the Award Programme. Find out more here.
