Ghulam ton sees off England U19s

England Under-19s suffered their third loss of their Tri-Series campaign as they went down to a to their Pakistan counterparts at Grace Road.

Kamran Ghulam hit a blistering 102 not out from 56 balls, including seven maximums, while Sami Aslam and Hasan Raza both added half-centuries as the tourists posted a massive 369 for seven.

Tom Barber and Will Rhodes both grabbed two wickets while skipper Ben Duckett took five catches behind the stumps, but England struggled to prevent the heavy scoring from continuing as Pakistan rattled along at over seven an over.

The chase got off to a bad start with Jonathan Tattersall falling to Zia-ul-Haq in the first over. Harry Finch also departed early before Duckett and Ryan Higgins put on 56 for the third wicket.

The captain departed for 21 to Farhan Nazir but Finch went on to reach a half-century, and when he was eventually ousted by Mohammad Aftab he had added 65 from 46 balls.

England were 110 for four at that stage, but following three wickets from Zafar Gohar and a further scalp for Nazir, they slumped to 145 for eight.

Josh Shaw and Andy Ireland each added 18 to the score before Hussain Talat struck twice to dismiss England for 189 in the 35th over.

England, who remain third in the table, now face a winner-takes-all clash with second-placed Bangladesh Under-19s on Thursday, with the winner joining Pakistan in the final.
