Eckersley and elements halt Glamorgan charge

Watch highlights of Glamorgan versus Leicestershire

An unbeaten half-century from Ned Eckersley and afternoon rain held up Glamorgan's pursuit of victory in their LV= County Championship clash with Leicestershire at Swansea.

A total of 38 overs were lost on day three, which ended with Leicestershire in their second innings and still 171 runs behind following Glamorgan’s declaration at 508 for nine.

Only 11 runs were added to the hosts’ overnight score of 445 for seven when Andrew Salter edged Ben Raine to Greg Smith at second slip.

After a few lusty blows Graham Wagg also perished, holing out to deep extra-cover.

Yet Michael Hogan then struck five fours and a six en route to 27 off 13 deliveries and Glamorgan’s 10th-wicket stand was worth 46 when Mark Wallace declared.

Hogan, the leading wicket-taker in the championship, had Greg Smith lbw prior to Leicestershire taking lunch on 28 for one.

Wickets proved tough to come by thereafter, however, as Eckersley cashed in on a couple of early let-offs.

Leicestershire’s number three almost gloved a bouncer behind and then dragged a Hogan no-ball onto his stumps with only four to his name.

He had a fifty when rain heralded an early tea and Shiv Thakor for company following Salter’s removal of Niall O’Brien for 29.

A lengthy delay ensured only four more overs were possible before the close, Leicestershire adding one run.
