Napier finishes off Derbyshire

Watch highlights of day four

Graham Napier led the attack as Essex claimed a 53-run victory over Derbyshire on the final day of the LV= County Championship Division Two match at Chelmsford.

The 34-year-old all-rounder helped dismiss the visitors for 312 by completing figures of 3-49.

Derbyshire started the day needing another 199 runs with five wickets remaining, but Napier first bowled Richard Johnson, who added just 12 to his overnight score of nine, and then took the key wicket of Shivnarine Chanderpaul for 52 two overs later.

West Indies batsman Chanderpaul, who was left stranded on 75 in the first innings, lost his wicket just three balls after reaching his half-century as he was caught behind by James Foster.

David Wainwright and Tim Groenewald put on a strong eighth-wicket partnership of 89 to keep the visitors interested before England spinner Monty Panesar accounted for the latter, stumped by wicketkeeper Foster for 52 from 35 balls featuring four sixes and five fours.

Mark Turner lasted only 17 balls, becoming Napier's third victim after finding the hands of Alastair Cook to leave Derbyshire still 63 runs short with just one wicket remaining.

Last man Mark Footitt only managed to add four before David Masters removed him to claim his seventh victim of the match and hand Essex the victory.
